Red Rope: A Walking and Climbing Club with a Difference

Socialist. Green. Member‑run.

Red Rope cares about the politics of the outdoors. People’s right to roam is under threat, and land use is a critical issue in the climate emergency. Our members defend access, protect the environment, and encourage more people to get into the outdoors. We have always been an inclusive club — over half our members are women.

Why Join Red Rope

We organise walks and trips across the UK — over a hundred events each year, from easy local walks to longer mountain trips.

  • Be part of a walking, climbing and mountaineering club built on shared politics and a love of the outdoors

  • Join affordable outdoor trips — membership and trip charges are scaled to income

  • Access low-cost accommodation in mountain areas and national parks

  • Get experienced help and access to training — you don’t need to be highly skilled or super fit
